The first step of the process is to speak with a Mortgage Broker. Ruth James Mortgages will search the market and advise you on what is available. We will explain what type of mortgage best suits your circumstances taking into account what your future aspirations may be.
- Do speak with a Mortgage Broker that has access to the "whole of market". This means that they have relationships with most lenders in the intermediary market.
- Subject to status.Find out how much you can afford to borrow and how much deposit you will need to have. Currently there are lenders that will be able to lend based on a minium deposit of 10%.
- Work out what your monthly budget will be taking into account what your outgoings will be including all your utility bills. Your adviser can help you work this out.
- Plan to protect your mortgage payments in the event that you are unable to pay them in the future.
- Where possible get an AIP (agreement in principal) from the lender as this will speed up the mortgage process.
